China: Research on Laser Weaponry just as advanced as in the US.

(Beijing)  Whilst the US is generally seen as the developer and user of advanced weaponry (Stealth-planes, Drones  etc)  China has played a huge game of catch-up and  fields all of the hi-tech stuff that the US military is taking for granted. One such example is the laser.  The ZEUS-HLONS (HMMWV Laser Ordnance Neutralization System) is a solid-state laser weapon which is used by the U.S. military in order to neutralize surface land mines and unexploded ordnance.

Well as has been the case with China with everything new the US brings out, they have now revealed their version of the ZEUS:

The Chinese currently have 3 separate anti-drone systems in place and the one above from GuoRong Technology is the least powerful. However that said it was able to defeat a plate of aluminium a few millimetres thick at a distance of 360 meters, which was followed up by taking out the wee drone flying a kilometre away. The GuoRong anti-drone system is composed of two vehicles one with a small rotating radar with a range of about 55 km and the other with an infrared turret, a tower optronic tracking and laser transmitter.

Ok not on a par with the Zeus (which is battlefield proven) or the system in place on the USS Ponce. But credit to the Chinese for catching up.
