Ramadan death toll round-up, August 14, 2012

(Iraq) 10 people were killed today as gunmen strutted their stuff across the country. In Jurf al-Sakhar, a bomb killed 3 policemen and a second bomb hidden to catch first responders injured 5 people.

In Mosul, gunmen shot dead a soldier, a telephone engineer and a housewife. In Baghdad, two Sunni Muslims were shot dead. In Hammam al-Alil, an IED killed a soldier an injured several others, and a man's body was found in Kirkuk.

(Afghanistan) In a string of suicide bomb attacks aimed primarily at packed market places, 42 people have been blown to bits and more than 130 injured.

On the border of Pakistan with Afganstan, the Pakistani army have launched an attack on their northern neighbour, killing 1 soldier. As I write, Afghan troops are being rushed to the area.

(Pakistan) Meanwhile in Upper Orakzai Agency, an army patrol was ambushed by Islamic terrorists, killing 5 and wounding 15. Problem for the terrorists was, the troops had access to radios, and a few air strikes and artillery barrages saw 25 of Allah's favourite uphill gardeners leave this world for a much hotter place down under.

(Yemen) In what could be classed as an attempted coup, Yemen's so called elite republican guard surrounded the presidential place in Sana'a in response to the president taking power away from them for his defence and giving it to a newly formed army unit (Presidential Protective Forces). Well, after a quick bun fight which cost 3 lives the republican army is on the back foot. Expect more in the next few days.

(Lebanon) Earlier today, 21-year-old Ali Mahmoud Morda was shot dead by 30-year-old Bilal Ali Haj Hasan. Picking up a gun Ali's father hunted down Bilal and shot him dead.

Ramadan death count moves up to 2,820.
